Split King vs King Mattress: What's the Difference?

A standard King is one continuous mattress surface. A Split King is typically two Twin XL-sized sleep surfaces placed side by side.

The important distinction

Split designs can make independent adjustable-base positioning easier and reduce the need for both sleepers to use the same mattress construction. The tradeoff is the center division.

What to check when shopping

If you share the center of the bed often, test whether a split layout will bother you. If independent positioning matters more, the split format can be practical.

Practical tip: Compare the exact product configuration and current terms rather than assuming a category-level feature works the same way on every mattress.
